Touching Spirit Bear book review

Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen was an interesting book about Cole Matthews, a young boy going through a hard life. He caused many problems in the community and when he finally almost beat Peter Driscal to death, his town was tired of his anger and put him in the circle of justice. After everyone agreed to send him to an isolated island in Alaska, Cole was mauled by a huge, white bear. When Edwin and Harvey came to check on Cole they noticed his wounds and took him to a near doctor. Six months later, Cole returned back to the circle of justice to see if he would be sentenced to jail. Even though noone wanted Cole Matthews to return back to the island, he did and had to build his hut and survive on his own. He did many activities to overcome his anger, including soaking in the creek, carrying the ansestor rock up the hill and rolling it back down, and carving designs on a totem pole. Now that Cole started to fix his anger issues, he realized there was no use in being angry all the time. As I read this story, I learned to be patient in everything I do and to not take things or people for granted.

I Heart You, You Haunt Me. Book Review

Imagine loosing your best friend, boyfriend, and someone you trust with your life all on the same day. Anna, in the book "I Heart You, You Haunt Me" lost her boyfriend Jackson. This book makes you realize many things. It was very touching and one of my favorite books. After reading this book written by Lisa Schenodzer, I learned to live everyday like my last and to love others with all of my heart. I enjoyed Lisa's style because it was written in poetry form and I never wanted to put it down. As I was reading, I felt as if I were in the story. The way she described Jackson coming back felt so real. If you like to read realistic books or books about relationships, I would recommend you to read it. "I Heart You, You Haunt Me" made me feel like I grew as a person as I read it. Lisa made Jackson seem so real and makes you wonder if something could happen to you like that. This was such an amazing book. I would recommend this to teens who have relationship trouble.

Copper Sun book review

Slavery brought so many tears and was a hard time for everyone. In the story Copper Sun by Sharon M. Draper slavery was the main conflict. Amari was a young girl who had to watch the death of her family and was taken away to become a slave. As she was taken to many places she finally met afi, an older woman who took care of her and made her a stronger person. After being molested and abused by the sailors on the death ship she never gave up. When Amari was sold to the Derbyshire farms, she met Polly, Teenie, and Tidbit. Even though Mr. Derby was a cruel and abusive man, his wife Izabelle had a very caring and loving personality. When Mrs. Derby had her baby she realized that she wasn't Mr. Derby's but was Noah's. After the death of Izabelle Derby and her baby girl, Polly, Amari, and Tidbit ran away to find freedom. On their travels, they ran into many people who helped them along the way. They finally made it to Savannah, Georgia and stayed at the Spanish Colony, Fort Mose. Amari found out that she was pregnant there by a rape. Even though all of these people went through abuse and rape, they never quit living and still had faith.
